Detailed Itinerary of 5 Days Northern Tanzania Safari

Day 1: Arrival and Drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Your 5 Days Northern Tanzania Safari starts with pick up from your hotel in Arusha or from the Kilimanjaro International Airport upon arrival by your driver-guide. He will brief you about your safari and then drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area via Lake Manyara and Karatu.

Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch, check in at the lodge and spend the rest of the day at leisure. Enjoy dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Transfer to Serengeti National Park 

After breakfast, check out of your lodge and with your packed lunch boxes, descend 600 feet into Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive on the crater floor. Ngorongoro Crater is the largest intact-unfilled caldera in the world, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site offering incredible wildlife sightseeing.

During the game drives, expect to see several wildlife species including lions, leopards, cape buffaloes, gazelles, zebras, wildebeests, rhinos and several bird species including the pink flamingoes on the shores of Lake Magadi – found in the corner of the crater. After your picnic lunch, you will continue with the game drive as you exit the crater, heading to Serengeti National Park, arrive in the evening, check in at your lodge and spend the evening for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Game Drives in Serengeti National Park 

Wake up early for breakfast and head to Serengeti National Park for early morning and late afternoon game drive. Serengeti National Park is one of the best game viewing spot in Africa, named after a local Maa word “Siringet” meaning “the land that runs forever” depicting the endless plains of Serengeti.

Serengeti National Park is home to the Big 5 (lions, leopards, cape buffaloes, rhinos and elephants), the Great Migration as well as other wildlife species including hyenas, cheetahs, caracals, serval cats and several bird species including vultures which you will see during the game drives.

Enjoy picnic lunch at one of the picnic sites in Serengeti and continue exploring the park till evening, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Transfer to Lake Manyara National Park 

Enjoy a delicious breakfast served at the lodge, then depart for Lake Manyara National Park via the Ngorongoro Highlands. Check in and enjoy lunch at the lodge.

In the afternoon you will go for a game drive at the nearby Lake Manyara National Park for a game drive. The beautiful Lake Manyara National Park is situated spectacularly between the Great Rift Valley Escarpment and Lake Manyara. The park is famous for the rare tree climbing lions which are occasionally seen along branches of Acacia trees, Lake Manyara is also known for the pink flamingoes that inhabit the alkaline Lake Manyara. During the wet season, they inhabit the edges of the lake in flocks of thousands but they are not so present during the dry season. More than 400 bird species inhabit the park and many remain throughout the year.

Day 5: Departure 

After breakfast, check out of the lodge and drive back to Arusha with lunch served at one of the restaurants, then be transferred to the airport for your flight back home or to your next destination.
