Game Drives
Game drives is the most immersive way to explore, experience and appreciate the beauty of Serengeti. Game Drives in Serengeti offer visitor an opportunity to see the diverse wildlife across the various regions of the park.
Guarded in the comforts of your safari vehicle, it is possible to see all the members of the African Big Five (Lion, Elephants, Cape Buffaloes, Rhinos, and Leopards). Other incredible sights to expect include zebras, cheetahs, giraffes, warthogs, hippos, jackals, wild dogs, and a number of different species of antelopes such as impala, waterbucks, hartebeests, topis and elands among others.
Game drives in Serengeti National Park are done as morning game drives, afternoon game drives and full day game drives, conducted by experienced and knowledgeable driver guides who will give you all the full information you need to know about Serengeti and its wildlife.
Wildebeest Migration Safari
Witness the one of the nature’s phenomenon occurrences – The Great Wildebeest Migration as it takes place in the savannah plains of Serengeti National Park. Every year, over two million wildebeests accompanied by ten thousands of zebras and gazelles embark on an annual journey through the Mara – Serengeti Ecosystem in search for water and green pasture.
One of the best places to witness this epic migration is in Northern Serengeti around August to October when wildebeests are crossing the Mara River and from June – July in Western Corridor during the Grumeti River Crossings.
In the months of January and March, witness the calving season in southern plains – Ndutu Plains. Between the months of April to May, you can witness the large herds of wildebeests around Central Serengeti migrating to the north.
Birding Safaris
Serengeti National Park is one of the Important Birding Areas in Serengeti and a haven for bird enthusiasts with over 500 bird species, including endemics, residents and migrants, thriving in the park’s diverse habitats like grasslands, woodlands and rivers.
Birds to lookout for on a Serengeti birding safari include Ostrich, Tawny Eagle, Marabou Stork, Grey – Crowned Crane, Kori Bustard, Lesser Flamingo, Vitelline Masked Weaver, Superb Starling, Lilac – Brested Roller among others.
Hot air Balloon Safari
Fly over the endless plains of Serengeti National Park and enjoy a bird’s eye view of the park. You rise at sunrise and gently fly over the endless plains of the Serengeti, the balloon floats at treetop height above the baobabs and acacias so that you can have clear views of the animals nearby.
Watching wildlife below from your balloon is a fascinating and peaceful experience that comes with breathtaking panoramic views.
Walking safaris
Gain a new perspective of the Serengeti on a 90 minute walk through the bush, learning about the tiny and finer details of the park’s ecosystem as well as flora and fauna, you would have missed while in a safari vehicle. Best Time to visit the Serengeti
Most travellers consider the dry season between June to October as the best time to visit Serengeti National Park. However, you can visit Serengeti National Park year round to enjoy exceptional safari experience.
Getting to Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park is a very accessible safari destination and the best option for accessing the park is for international flights to land at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Depending on the time of day you arrive, you may be able to connect with a small plane into the Serengeti from Kilimanjaro. If not, you have to spend a night in Arusha Town, which is a 90 minutes’ drive from Kilimanjaro Airport.
Daily flights to the Serengeti depart daily from both Kilimanjaro Airport and Arusha Airport. Due to the vast size of the Serengeti, there are a number of different airstrips the service the entire area. The plane will land at the airstrip closest to your camp, but be advised that there may be stops at airstrips along the way to collect or drop off other guests.
